Gavin Bryars Commission
We are delighted to announce our latest project - a new venture into contemporary music! In August and September we will be collaborating with American colleagues Guy Fishman (cello) and Renée Hemsing (viola) on a new commission by the inimitable Gavin Bryars.
The string sextet, entitled "The Bridges of Königsberg", is inspired by the life of Immanuel Kant, and the mathematical "Seven Bridges" problem - how to devise a route through the City of Königsberg that would cross each of its seven bridges once and once only.
The sextet was commissioned by Penny Wright and Andrew Neubauer, with additional funding from BBC Radio 3 and the Borletti-Buitoni Trust. The performances are supported by Continuo Foundation.
For the list of performances please check our diary page.
Signing with Linn Records
We are honoured and excited to announce that we have joined the stellar list of artists at Linn Records and will be starting our collaboration with a Mendelssohn cycle!
Our first record will feature two quartets in E flat major - Mendelssohn's 1823 Quartet, which he wrote at the age of 14, and the Op. 44 No. 3 Quartet.
Continuo Foundation Round 3
We are excited to announce that Continuo Foundation has kindly offered to support our Gavin Bryars Sextet Project, taking place this August/September. More information about tour dates and venues soon!
Congratulations to all the other exciting groups and projects, selected to receive Continuo grants.
Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award
We are thrilled to have been awarded a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship! We look forward to being part of the BBT family, which will enable us to follow our creative vision and keep moving forward as a group!
The Borletti-Buitoni Trust supports both outstanding young musicians (BBT Artists) and charitable organisations that help the underprivileged and disadvantaged through music (BBT Communities). Whether developing and sustaining young artists’ international careers, or bringing the joy of music to new communities, the Trust provides invaluable assistance and encouragement. www.bbtrust.com
